On 3rd February, Years 5 and 6 had the opportunity to attend a workshop given by Emmanuel Jal at Notting Hill Prep School. Emmanuel is a former child soldier, born in the war-torn region of Southern Sudan in the early 1980s. He has overcome huge personal struggles to become a successful and acclaimed recording artist, peace ambassador and philanthropist now living in Toronto, Canada. The workshop was inspirational and engaging, with a clear message that you can overcome difficulties and be your best. Best of all, there was dancing and singing at the end!
Teo in year 5 said of the event, ‘I really enjoyed the talk given by Emmanuel Jal. I found it very interesting and inspiring how he had to live and survive in such a dangerous war. It made me realise how lucky I am but how unlucky he was during the war in Sudan.’
